Walking Holiday in Scotland on John Muir Way
from Helensburgh to Dunbar
via Balloch, Strathblane, Falkirk Wheel,
South Queensferry, Edinburgh, and North Berwick.
The
John Muir Way is a 135 miles
(216 kilometres) way-marked walking trail. The route can be walked in either
direction and for those looking for a longer walking holiday it can be linked
to a walking holiday on the
West Highland Way.
This walking trail
uses a mixture of public footpaths and canal towpaths. The route is mainly
low-level with moderate gradients and no seriously long climbs. The highest
point is Gouk Hill at 885 feet (270 m) above sea level.
The western section of the route is in
Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
John Muir (1838-1914) the pioneer, traveller, mountaineer and father of
the United States' national parks, was born in Dunbar, Scotland.
